若いころは美容室に行くのが大変だった。雑誌のモデルみたいにしてくれなんて鏡を見てから言えと言われそうだし、聞かれても困るし、あいまいな返事をしながら少々不満があってもニコニコして帰宅してからブラシで思いきり梳き直したりしたこともあった。今は不満がほとんどない。地震の後からだからもう14年？になる。良い美容師さんに巡り合ったので、彼女が居てくれるかぎりは安心して通い続けられる。すごくマッサージの上手な若い女性と会話の楽しいお兄さんもいてますます居心地がいい。若い人は次々替わっていくので、厳しいんだろうなあと思いつつ「がんばって！」と心の中で応援している。お客様は神様なんて言うけれど、よほどでなければ殆どの客は不満は言わないものだ。気まずくなるよりは黙って別のところに行く方が楽だからだ。不満より褒め言葉の方がいいやすいが、それも言うのはたいがいおばさんだけ。だから、客商売は客の表情や空気を読めなければやっていけないし、「こうしたらきっと喜ぶだろう」と想像力を働かせることがとても大切だ。まあどんな仕事でもそれは同じなのだが若いころの自分は、それがとても苦手で下手だったなあと振り返って冷や汗ものである。
ところでシロの御用達はわがtom_naka美容室である。彼女は不満があるのだろうか？でもいつもイソイソとやってくるから気に入っていると思うのだが。
When I was young, it wasn't easy going to the salon. I felt like I am supposed to say that I want them to make me look like a model, and wouldn't know what to say if they ask me. Sometimes even I didn't like it, I just said something vague with smile, and go home to brush and fix them. But since the big earthquake, so that must be almost 14 years? I met the great hair dresser, my favorite, and since then going to the hair cut became easy. Now they got a young girl who is good at massage, a young guy who is fun to talk to, so it became really comfortable go there. Young people come and go there and I suppose its a pretty hard work. I cheer for the youngsters secretly in my heart.
They say "The customers are gods" in Japan, but i think most of the customers would rather avoid the confrontation even if they don't like something. So instead of complain to the store, they rather not say anything, and go elsewhere next time. Even if they do complain, most of them are usually old ladies.
Therefore in the service industries, you have to be able to read the little signs and feel what the customers are thinking. Try to think "maybe this will make them happy.", it's important to use your imagination: but i guess that applies to any business, When I was young, I was so bad at it, and looking back, I break into a cold sweat and feel embarrassed.
Anyway, Shiro is a usual customer here at Tom_Naka salon, I wonder if she has something to complain.. But she always comes to me, so I suppose she's happy with me.
